So Victoria was fun. A quick runthrough of the trip, to help me keep it in my memory long enough to actually do a travelogue:
departurethe top of the space Needle buried in fog. It looked as if it had been chopped off at the knees. Bus driver was suspiciously cheerful for 6:30 AM. The walk to the bus stop was quiet, except for the birds, just after the sun had risen.
The ferry went through a fog bank, so it took three hours to get there. The ferry itself was a high-speed catamaran--mostly above the waterline and very comfortable. They even brought food to you if you wanted.
Victoria itself is...well-scrubbed. really.
It's pretty, and there are lots of picturesque things to look at. Even the panhandlers are sorta clean.
The whole place simply reeks of English charm. I went to Crystal Gardens (I love greenhouses to bits. This was a pretty good greenhouse.) and to the wax museum, and spent the rest of the time wandering around shopping and looking at things. The fog burned off by the afternoon, and the day was really pretty. A bit warm, but nice.
I decided to ignore my diet for the day, so I had ice cream and a sandwich, which made me quite happy.
The ferry ride back was relaxing, and the customs agents were the nicest ones I've ever encountered. Much more relaxed than the ones of the Vancouver train.
And so that was my day.
