December 3rd: the Princess of Life Gone Out

Every morning this week, as I've walked up the hill to the bus stop, there has been a King County Library System truck stopped at the Roanoke light.

Coincidence? Or are the library people keeping an eye on me? The world may never know.

I like my job much better today than i did yesterday. i'm finally free of the Project from Hell for a month, and does it ever feel good....I'm puttering around today, doing estimates and making lists and writing up notes for a big meeting i'm going to be doing a presentation for next week.

I'm mildly euphoric, feeling like kicking up my heels and laughing. I am armed with lists and lists of things I need to do in the next couple of weeks, and I'll be organizing them by date pretty soon, here. A lot of the things I need to do are just mundanities, things that i've been neglecting to do because I didn't have time or because I just lacked the heart to do them. Like organizing my personal files at home and cleaning out my desk drawers of all the useless crap that's accumulated in them in the past two years.

i also just got a $50 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble....hmm, wonder where i'll be this weekend?

I was looking really grumpy yesterday (after we were almost done and the very last compile broke in a bad an unexpected way), and Hosie handed me her teddy bear. "His name is Grrrr. He's for grumpy people." I hugged the bear and Hosie recompiled the .chm on her machine, and it worked and all was well.

Hosie rocks so much, it's unbelievable. I want to start a company just so i can give Hosie a cool job.

I went to Entros last night for the company holiday party. It was a lot of fun, even though I'd had my doubts. I ended up making a bunch of stuff at the Imogen's station, including an "artistic license" (preferred medium: classic death ray), an "Expert" license (department: Web subversion) and a big sign with a picture of me sticking out my tongue that says NYAH!. All laminated, of course.

It was really what I needed last night--to play with paper and pens and pictures and scissors. I'm noticeably more relaxed today--and I got up at 7:30, which is earlier than I've been up for weeks.

Life is looking up.

The only water I drink is dew collected
off the petals of orchids lapped up
from the navels of Abyssinian maids, as
softly on their dulcimers they play.

I also drink the blood of virgins, fermented
yak pee, and milk (2%). I get by.
